There was a time when a woman named Suyang ruled Alaminos. Suyang was a popular ruler which caused the ire of Perez, a powerful ruler from Zambales. Perez decided to punish Suyang and his men so he set forth for Alaminos. But Suyang was forewarned of the coming of Perez and his troop. She advised the town people to leave their residence, and so the people left the town in two groups. The group went to a place near the Bued River or what is now Pocalpocal. A small lake called “Timmaew” was found there. The narrow and deep part of the lake was called “Lipit.” South of Lipit is a bubbling spring known as “Ayusan.”

When asked where they live, the natives answered, “Diad lugar na walay pocalpocal” , which means 'where there is a spring'.
