For a better Alaminos.

Newly installed city Vice Mayor Cesar C. Manzano has extended his hand of reconciliation to Mayor Hernani A. Braganza by expressing his willingness to work hand in hand with the re-electionist city chief executive.

“You have my support to your worthy programs and good intensions for our city,” Manzano told the mayor that elicited cheers from the 350-strong city hall employees during last Monday’s flag raising ceremonies held at the city hall ground.

“Election is over and our citymates have already spoken who really they want to serve our city,” he said. It’s high time that we all unite for the continued progress of our city.

The former city councilor who run against and lost to Braganza in 2007 local elections added that he won’t also let anyone destroy the noble goals of the city government.

“Like our mayor, I’m against any move that will disrupt our city’s development,” said Manzano.

The vice mayor is referring to the pronouncement of Mayor Braganza in his recent inaugural speech where the latter warned unscrupulous individuals of disturbing the relatively peaceful city and in trying to revive illegal activities in his turf.

The first ever elected three-termer city mayor further stressed that his administration will always be on guard against the possible resurgence of illegal activities in his turf.

Manzano called on his citymates to extend their share in doing what is right for the city even as he noted that “we are all here to serve our city and our country and not to promote ourselves.”

“Mayor Nani can’t do the job alone and so do I or even our city council. With your help we could achieve our goal of making Alaminos a better and progressive city,” he continued.

On his part, Braganza reminded anew his fellow city officials that their job is not just to come up and implement projects but also in setting the right standards and policies that will bring about change in the city.

“I challenge everybody to commit ourselves to action and keep pace with the challenges posed by the changing time,” stressed the mayor who first acknowledged and congratulated his citymates and new city officials for a clean and honest election.

We have done this in the past 6 years of my administration. We will do this in my last 3 years of as your mayor but this time with the help of our newly elected city officials.”

Braganza also thanked his citymates for giving him the fresh mandate to serve them as their first ever three-termer mayor and in leading the city to greater heights.

It’s a dream come true," he said of his remarkable feat. "I never imagined that Alaminos will become a city when I filed the bill in Congress. I never thought I will become your mayor more so to be given the privilege to be of service to Alaminians for three full terms.”

The mayor recalled that when he run for re-election in 2007 and the last one only this May to complete a three straight term, he promised to do all he can with all his heart in serving his citymates.

Braganza said he agrees with the vice mayor when the latter said that election is an instrument in achieving change in a certain place or country.

Today, we have elected a new president of our nation, no less than His Excellency Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III, a son of a former lady president, known to many as the mother of democracy.”

The former Agrarian Reform and Press Secretary also took the opportunity to congratulate President Noynoy and our new vice president, former mayor Jejomar Binay of Makati, our sister city.

We are looking forward to a brand new start and in meeting and rising to the challenges of the modern world. Our job is to keep face with the changing time and mind of on the long-term transformation and development of our country.”

After the simple ceremony, Mayor Braganza and Vice Mayor Manzano along with city councilors Earl James Aquino, Margielou Orange Humilde, Constante Carasi, Felimon Bacala Jr., Rufina Gabriel, Joseph Bacay and Rany de Leon sit together at the office of the city mayor to discuss the executive-legislative working arrangement.

Braganza briefed the vice mayor and the new members of the council on his administration’s programs under his 10-Point Development Agenda for the city as well as the on-going construction of the city’s landmark projects and multi-million investments that include the Alaminos Airport Development Project, the Hundred Islands Medical Services Complex, Pangasinan State University-Alaminos Campus and soon the Hundred Islands Hotel.

They also discussed some issues and pressing concerns that need to be addressed this rainy season.

With both chambers having agreed to be working closely in charting a better economic roadmap for the city for the next three years, Alaminians expect the sustainability of laudable programs which the Braganza administration had introduced, being implemented  and is now helping improve the quality of life of his citymates.
