With its continuous economic growth, it finally reached a remarkable 155% increase in income amounting to 61.4M in 1998. This qualified the town for cityhood. House Bill No. 4898, principally sponsored by then Rep. Hernani A.Braganza, and Senate Bill No. 2257 were separately passed by both Houses of Congress in 1998. In February 8, 2001, the House Bill No. 4898 and Senate Bill No. 2257 were consolidated into one version and passed onto law by both Houses of Congress. And on March 5, 2001, former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo signed Republic Act 9025, An Act Converting the Municipality of Alaminos, Province of Pangasinan into a Component City to be known as City of Alaminos. Finally, on March 28, 2001, 85% of Alaminians voted 'Yes' in a plebiscite, making Alaminos the fourth city of the province of Pangasinan. |
