Poverty in the Province of Pangasinan

Annual Per Capita Poverty Threshold
In 2012, estimated Annual Per Capita Poverty Threshold (APCPT) in Pangasinan is about
P 17,949.00 or around P 50.00 per day which is lower by at least P 2.70 per day from the
National level which is estimated at P 51.88 per day (Annual Per Capita Poverty Threshold).
Although this figure is not that significant as compared to the national and regional averages
and other provinces in the Region I as well, this figure shows a 45% increase from the APCPT
level in 2000 at P 12,633.00 (Annual Per Capita Poverty Threshold in Pangasinan, National and

).


Meanwhile the Poverty Incidence Among Families in Pangasinan showed a continuous decline
from 21.8% in 2006 to 14.9% in 2012 or a 6.9 percentage points in span of six years (Charts on

). Athough it is declining, the magnitude of poor families in the
Province still stands at 96,109 families representing 62% of the 154,712 estimated poor families
in Region I.


It can also be noted that with regards to Poverty Incidence Among Population, Pangasinan has
about 20.4% which is the highest among the provinces in the Region and the Regional average
as well. The Province however showed the highest decrease (8.3 percentage points) in terms of
the reduction on poverty incidence among population from the level in 2006 to 2012. In terms
of magnitude however, owing to its bigger area and population size, estimated number of poor
population in the province stands at 582,209. This figure represents about 66% of the total poor
population in Region I estimated at 876,650.


Annual Per Capita Food Threshold
For CY 2012, the NSCB also estimated that Annual Per Capita Food Threshold (APCFT) in the
Province stands at P 12,533.00 or at P 34.33 pesos per day (Annual Per Capita Food Threshold).
This figure represents a 30% increase from that level in 2006 estimated at P 9,680.00 per
annum or P 26.52 per day (Annual Per Capita Food Threshold in Pangasinan, National and

).


In terms of Subsistence Incidence among poor families, the province of Pangasinan has about
3.7% in 2012 while the Philippines, Region I, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and La Union has about
7.5%, 3.9%, 1.3%, 6.0% and 5.2% respectively (Charts on Food Subsistence Incidence in

). Comparing the level in 2006, the Province of Pangasinan has exhibited a reduction
of 4.06 percentage points to that level in 2006.


In terms of magnitude, the result of the survey showed that there are about 23,692 families
that are considered food subsistence poor in the province. However, this figure also showed
that the province has able to reduced the number of food subsistence poor from 43,055 in
2006 which is equivalent to 19,363 making it the best performer among the provinces in Region
I.


In terms of Subsistence Incidence among poor population, the province in 2012 has about 5.6%,
exhibiting a continuous decline from the level in 2006 and 2009. Correspondingly, the number
of subsistence poor population has also decline from 292,797 in 2006 to 158,771 in 2012 which
is a reduction of about 134,024 which is equivalent to 45% reduction from the level in 2006.
