As of December 2012, there are 15 commercial piggery and poultry farms operating in the City. Most of these farms are partners of big time poultry and piggery operators such as San Miguel Corporation (Map of Commercial Poultry and Piggery Farms). Under contracting scheme, their products don’t find their way to the local market.
The City operate Don Leopoldo Alcedo Slaughterhouse, the only double “AA” category slaughterhouse accredited by the National Meat Inspection Services in Western Pangasinan . From 2004 to 2011, average number of slaughtered heads per day in the City’s for cattle, carabao , hogs and goats stands at 717, 993, 19,891 and 114 respectively. However, the City Veterinary Office has reported that only 30% of these slaughtered animals were produced in Alaminos. (Indicators for the Livestock Sub-Sector By Year)
