According to the old folks of this barangay, during the early days, the swampy and marshy places that surround it abound with native crabs called “kap-pi” or “kappis.”
People of the place and even from neighboring places used to come to gather these edible small native crabs. It was later called 'Pang-kappisan' which meant 'a place where people gather crabs'

As time went by, however, it was shortened to “Pangapisan.”
